Approximately 2 months ago, a Brighton resident reported rats in the area of Prince Edward St between County Rd 64 and Cedar St. Subsequent to the first report, another Brighton resident reported that 27 rats were trapped in the area of the intersection of Prince Edward & Cedar Streets. Soon after that report, it was reported that 9 rats were trapped in the area of Ontario St & Main St. Most recently, during the week of August 24, 2015, rats were reported in the vicinity of Perry Ave. Given the significant property damage & health risks posed by rats & the potential for damage to reputation that could result from being known as a rat-infested town, it is recommended that Council direct staff to immediately acquire the services of a contract pest controller in order to stop the apparent spread of rats in Brighton.
