This report described the extent and concentration of contamination originating from the former Cooey property. Mr Degroot also made it clear that this longstanding & unresolved contamination issue could impact expansion plans for Premier Tech Biotechnologies. In order to protect the health and safety of all Brighton residents & particularly those living on Prince Edward Street adjacent to the Cooey property & in the housing development south of the industrial park; and in order to ensure that economic development not be impeded by longstanding & unresolved contamination issues; and in order that all members of Council and the public can better understand the best ways to resolve the contamination issues originating from the Cooey property, it is recommended that Council request that MOECC staff appear at a public meeting to discuss the contamination issues originating from the Cooey property and to answer all questions from Council and the public. It is also recommended that this public meeting happen no later than October 15, 2016, and request the public submit questions to the CAO 2 weeks prior to the meeting.
