Whereas the Municipality of Brighton is rapidly growing and there has been a need demonstrated now and in the future for services for the Halliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (HKPR) Health Unit or Hub directly located in the Municipality of Brighton; And whereas the nearest Office for in person service (Well water testing, community health etc.) in Northumberland County now is Port Hope to the West; And whereas the Health Unit Office (HKPR) moved out of Brighton in June 2016; And whereas it is Council's desire to have the Municipality of Brighton partner with the Provincial Government and the HKPR to again establish a Health Unit office or Hub in Brighton. Now be it resolved that the Mayor and CAO be authorized to set up a meeting with the Chair of board of directors of the HKPR to see if it’s feasible to re-establish their services in Brighton and research the possibilities of space for a return to the Municipality. Whereas the citizens of the Municipality of Brighton are looking for an opportunity to rid used but usable household items rather than through Yard Sales and needless trips to our landfill; And Whereas other communities at this time are holding or considering “Curbside Giveaway Day” a popular environmental “Green” initiative (that has become quite popular around the Province); And Whereas the “Giveaway Day is meant to normalize the reuse and donation of unwanted but usable items and keep them form ending up in landfills while promoting the “sharing of economy”; And Whereas any items that are not picked up that day will have to be brought back in; Now therefore be it resolved that the Municipality of Brighton Council approve and authorize staff to determine the best date this year 2021 for an annual initiative and to set out the rules for residents taking part.
